A national supermarket chain has announced it will be closing its doors early this evening.

More than 1,800 Tesco Express stores across the nation will close at 7.30pm instead of their usual time to allow employees to watch the nail-biting final of England vs Spain.

The decision comes after Wednesday's game which saw England make it into the Euro final after beating the Netherlands 2-1.

In a post on social media, Tesco said: “It’s time for another massive final. That’s why we’re giving our incredible colleagues the time they deserve to enjoy it by closing every Express store across England from 7.30pm on Sunday.

“It’s the least we can do after all their hard work. And come kick-off, England deserve every little bit of support.”

Meanwhile, One Stop will also be closing its doors early to give its staff much-needed time off to enjoy the big game.

A statement on Facebook read: “On Sunday our stores in England will be closing early for the match, so our colleagues can watch it too.
