A school playing field in Preston can be used by pupils again after a housing developer stepped up.

Elivia Homes, which is building ten homes at Sadler's Court next door to Preston Primary VC School, donated 265 square feet of astroturf and 60 metres of fencing to the school.

With volunteers from Elivia lending a hand to install the equipment, they were able to transform the previously unsafe school playing field into a usable space.

Mrs Inneke Luitingh, headteacher at the school, said: "The former field was not safe for children to play on and had been disused for a long period of time, so we’re really pleased that we now have this area to take part in sports both in PE lessons and break times all year round.

“We are so grateful to Elivia Homes and humbled by the fact that they have undertaken this huge project for us."

Beverly Griffiths, senior sales manager at Elivia Homes Central, said: “Ensuring a lasting legacy in the areas we build and supporting local communities where we can is a key priority for Elivia Homes.

"With our new development right next to the school’s field, we noticed the sports pitch was in a state of disrepair and were keen to support them and provide the materials and workforce needed to put the field back into use.

"The new astro pitch means the children can enjoy being outside in all weathers and have a safe place to play.”
