Detectives have named Peter Lynch as the victim of a fatal stabbing and revealed a woman arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on police bail.

Police were called at 11.53pm on Wednesday June 19 to reports of a serious assault in Walden End, Stevenage.

Peter Lynch, 61, was rushed to hospital with suspected stab wounds and sadly died a short time later.

A 34-year-old woman, who was known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder. She has since been released on police bail.

An investigation was launched by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit who are now appealing for information.

Detective Inspector Lee Martin, who is investigating, said: “Our thoughts are with Peter’s family at this very difficult time and are being supported by our officers.

"I understand this may cause concern to the local community, but I’d like to reassure everyone that there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public."

Detectives are appealing for information and dash cam footage following the tragic incident.

DI Martin added: “I would like to hear from anyone who was in the Walden End or Six Hills area at around 11.30pm on Wednesday and may have witnessed or heard something that could help us progress this investigation.

“If you have a dash cam fitted to your vehicle and were in the area at the time, please review your footage as you may have captured something vital that could assist with our enquiries.”
