A driver caught speeding on the A1(M) has been given a two-year ban.
Sinan Ergun, aged 27, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court last week and pleaded guilty to driving dangerously, failing to stop when directed and failing to provide a saliva sample at an earlier court hearing.
At around 2.20am on April 23, officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit (RPU) spotted a car speeding on the A1(M) in Welwyn. The car, a BMW, was being driven at a speed believed to be more than 150mph.
The car eventually came to a stop along the South Mimms stretch, after officers successfully stung it during an authorised pursuit.
Ergun left the vehicle and was arrested in Swanland Road, after making off from officers.
Ergun, of Manly Dixon Drive in Enfield, has been handed a 24-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months, alongside a two-year driving ban. He must also undertake 120 hours of unpaid work.
PC Alex Wheeler, from the RPU, said: "I hope this news reassures the public that officers are out there patrolling the motorways to keep you safe from dangerous people like Ergun.
"He is very lucky not to have seriously injured or killed somebody, and I hope his sentence deters others who think they can take such reckless risks on the road."
