In good news for commuters, two new services calling at Stevenage have been added to the Great Northern timetable.

Govia Thameslink Railway is introducing a morning and evening weekday service from Monday, June 3, which is set to call at Peterborough, Huntingdon, St Neots, Biggleswade and Stevenage.

The morning service will start from Peterborough at 6.53am, before calling at Stevenage at 7.20am and arriving at London King’s Cross 7.44am

The evening service will depart King’s Cross at 5.42pm, call at Stevenage 6.25pm and arrive at Peterborough at 6.53pm.

The decision comes in response to rising demand and comments from passengers who called for more peak-time capacity, although the new trains will not call at busy Hertfordshire stations such as Hitchin or Welwyn Garden City.

"We’re constantly listening to our customers, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to respond with these extra seats, providing more choice, comfort and convenience for our passengers between Peterborough and London," said Jenny Saunders, customer services director for GTR.

"We’ll continue to monitor demand and make more improvements wherever we can."
