Hitchin's Street Food Monthly is returning next month for a packed 2024 calendar, with the organiser of the beloved event promising it will be "bigger and better than ever".
Kicking off on May 2 in Market Place, Street Food Monthly will be taking place on the first Thursday of every month up until October.
Next month's edition will see the likes of Café 77, Amani Kitchen and The Jerk Hub in attendance, with plenty of tasty food for hungry punters to chose from.
Cantina Carnitas will also be there, with owner and Street Food Monthly organiser Matt Bean telling the Comet that the event will be "bigger and better than ever before" this year.
"This year is really exciting. We’ve gone bigger than we have over the last couple of years, and will be putting on events from May all the way through to October," said Matt.
"Every month we’re going to have live music and a DJ, as well as a minimum of 10 savoury traders and a desert trader. We are populating the whole of the square this year as well, which is going to be great.
"We’ve got lots of new traders coming on board, including new start ups and more established businesses, so it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. Hopefully the weather will be good too."
The May 2 event will also be a celebration of Victoria Kevans, the former owner of The Victoria pub who passed away in January following a battle with cancer.
Victoria played a key role in setting up Street Food Monthly back in 2016, and Matt was keen to honour her life and contribution to Hitchin's street food scene.
“We’ve got the 50-strong As One Community Choir singing next week, which will be really good. Having the choir there will be a celebration of her, and her love of all things creative and street food," he said.
"She was integral to Street Food Monthly, but she was behind the scenes and she certainly wouldn’t have wanted a big fuss, so we just want to celebrate her and let people celebrate her too."
Hitchin's Street Food Monthly will take place on the following dates:
- Thursday, May 2, from 4pm to 9pm
- Thursday, June 6, from 4pm to 9pm
- Thursday, July 4, from 4pm to 9pm
- Thursday, August 1, from 4pm to 9pm
- Thursday, September 5, from 4pm to 9pm
- Thursday, October 3, from 4pm to 9pm
