National Highways has condemned "unfair frustration" shown towards roadworkers on the A1(M), as a "significant safety defect" causes disruption.

Works have been taking place on the motorway's northbound carriageway, between junctions 6 and 7, since last Tuesday (March 19).

One lane has been closed throughout the works, with full overnight closures also taking place.

The road between Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage is set for a full closure northbound from 9pm tomorrow (Thursday, March 28) until 6am on Saturday (March 30).

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "National Highways will carry out repairs on the A1(M) northbound carriageway defect and to ensure the safety of all road users.  

"While National Highways recognise challenges posed by the defect, it condemns the unfair frustration expressed by drivers towards roadworkers."
