A new drive thru coffee shop could be opened on the A1(M) near Baldock if a planning application is approved.
Plans have been submitted for the Applegreen petrol station, on the southbound carriageway near Hinxworth, to become a Welcome Break. It is situated on the opposite side of the road to a BP petrol station.
The applicant wants to demolish the existing Applegreen unit, replacing it with a new forecourt and building.

It would include a drive thru coffee shop, as well as internal seating.
The number of pumps at the petrol station would remain the same, though there would be an increase in the number of car parking spaces, including more spaces with electric vehicle charging facilities.
