Stevenage couple Peter and Margaret Muncey are celebrating 68 years of marriage next week, with a knitted postbox topper marking the occasion.
Married in St Mary the Virgin Church in Walkern on March 17, 1956, Peter and Margaret soon moved to Mobbsbury Way in Stevenage, where they raised their sons, Paul and Simon.
Peter, 93, a skilled carpenter, spent his career working on houses for the emerging new town, in areas including Pin Green and St Nicholas, before working for Stevenage Borough Council maintaining many of the houses he had originally helped to build.
Margaret, 88, a loving and dedicated mother and housewife, raised their sons, who both went on to work at British Aerospace.
Simon, who had the idea of a postbox topper to celebrate his parents' wedding anniversary, said: "Mum and dad would often sent me WhatsApp pictures of the marvellous postbox toppers that the volunteer group Stevenage Postbox Knitters created throughout the year.
"It was obvious that they took great delight in all the fantastic displays, so the idea came to me to ask the group if they could do something extra special to celebrate my parents' very special day.
"Jacqueline Gibb, from Stevenage Postbox Knitters, was delighted to help, and immediately sprang into action and created a wonderful topper on display at the Emperor's Head."
He added: "It's fantastic my parents have married for such a long time, and I wish them many more years to come."
