A £1.1million eco-friendly project for Lister Hospital is set to get underway after grant funding.
East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, which operates the Stevenage site, has been awarded the money to install energy efficient LED lighting from the Government’s NHS National Energy Efficiency Fund (NEEF).
It will now replace around 20,000 light fittings across every ward, theatre, clinic, and office in the hospital over the next month.

Trust deputy chair Karen McConnell said: “We’re delighted to have been successful in securing a grant to carry out this important work thanks to the fantastic efforts of our sustainability team.
“One of several projects we’re progressing to decarbonise our hospital sites, this is an important step forward in working towards a greener, more sustainable Trust.
“As a provider of healthcare and a large employer in the local area we take our responsibility seriously.”
LED lights only use around half the electricity of conventional fluorescent lighting.
