Plans to demolish two semi-detached maisonettes in Stevenage and build 11 flats in their place have been submitted to the local authority for approval.

The proposed development in Ellis Avenue would see eight two-bedroom and three one-bedroom flats created by Stevenage Borough Council.

According to the council, the properties earmarked for demolition "are of a standard that do not meet modern expectations of high quality housing".

In a supporting statement accompanying the planning application, it says: "The proposal will provide sustainably designed apartments suitable for first time buyers, suitable also for an elderly or disabled occupier(s) and represents an efficient use of land."

It also says the proposed replacement apartment building is "of an appropriate scale and design to respect the character of the surrounding built environment," and "is not considered to present any adverse impact on either the street scene or neighbouring properties."
