The annual cleaning of the River Hiz in Hitchin will take place next week.
The operation will focus on areas outside St Mary’s Church and Peppermint Court in Whinbush Road, starting on Monday, February 5.
The sections of the river, operating via a 'balancing tank' system, will undergo a clean-up to remove obstructive silt, sludge, and general rubbish.
To facilitate the process, the water will be drained on February 2 and refilled on February 9, post-completion of the works.
Councillor Steve Jarvis, executive member for Environment and Leisure, said: "This annual work is important in maintaining the river in the centre of Hitchin, helping it to flow freely, helping maintain it as a vital habitat for ducks and other birds and wildlife, and visually appealing."
