A new OneStop store is set to open soon at Bragbury End in Stevenage.
The Kenilworth Close development, off Hertford Road, is currently under construction and includes space for five retail shops.
Now, a sign has appeared in the windows of one unit stating that OneStop will be opening there on Thursday, February 15.
The chain sells a range of food and other daily essentials, and operates 1,000 shops across the UK, including one at Broadwater Crescent in Stevenage.
Residents near the development have been left without a neighbourhood shop for a number of years, since Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) decided to demolished the previous buildings on the site in 2019. These included units occupied by K Express convenience store and Bragbury End News.
The redevelopment, overseen by SBC, includes the construction of 236 homes, several shops, a café and a community space. However, the council have refused to guarantee that a new community centre will also be built.
The project is currently in phase one, which includes the construction of 176 homes alongside the retail premises.
Cllr Jeanette Thomas, the council's executive member for housing, previously said that those premises could open in February or March 2024.
