A man is seriously injured in hospital after being assaulted in Stevenage in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident occurred between 2am and 4am, when it is reported that there was an altercation at the Drapers Arms on the High Street.

A man in his 20s then began to walk home and was assaulted near to the junction of Stanmore Road and Church Lane.

The victim remains in hospital, having sustained serious injuries, including a fractured eye socket.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information.
