Here are a few notices which could impact residents in Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth and Baldock in the coming months.

1. Closure of A1(M) between junction six and junction ten

National Highways Limited has made an order to ban traffic from the A1(M) in both directions between junction six and junction 10.

This is to "enable maintenance and improvement works to be carried out in safety".

Works are expected to take place overnight between 7pm and 6am (or 7am on Saturdays and Sundays), during a period starting on or after January 2, 2024 and ended by December 20, 2024. The road closures may not last for the entire period, and the order is for a maximum duration of 18 months.

During any closures, traffic will be diverted via alternative junctions and local roads.

The duration of each closure will vary depending on the nature of the maintenance work being carried out on each occasion.

2. Closure of Bedwell Crescent in Stevenage

A temporary order has been made by Hertfordshire County Council to prohibit all northbound traffic on Bedwell Crescent in Stevenage, between the junction with Plash Drive and the junction with Fairlands Way - a distance of around 240m.

The closure is to enable telecommunication works to be carried out, and an alternative route will be available via Bedwell Crescent, Cuttys Lane and Silam Road.

The order will come into force on December 19 for a period of up to 18 months, though the road will only be closed at specific times rather than constantly.

3. Speed restrictions on Martins Way in Stevenage

Hertfordshire County Council is intending to make an order to impose a temporary 30mph speed limit on Martins Way, between the junction with the A602/Gunnels Wood Road roundabout and the junction with the Canterbury Way/Grace Way roundabout - a distance of around 1.3km.

This is to allow works to be executed in the area.

If the order goes ahead, it will come into force on January 8, 2024, for a period of up to 18 months. The change will only be at specific times, rather than throughout the entire period of the order.

4. Closure of Common View in Letchworth

Hertfordshire County Council has made an order to ban traffic from Common View between the junction with Cromwell Green and the junction with North Avenue, a distance of approximately 100m.

An alternative route will be available via Common View, Norton Way North, Glebe Road and Green Lane.

The closure is to enable works to be carried out.

The order will come into force on December 18 for a period of up to 18 months, though the closure will only be in place at specific times rather than throughout the duration of the order.

5. Closure of Chancellors Road in Stevenage

Hertfordshire County Council is intending to make an order to ban traffic on Chancellors Road in Stevenage, between the junctions with North Road and Daltry Road - a distance of around 100m.

An alternative route will be available via North Road, Granby Road and Chancellors Road.

The closure will allow an existing gas mains to be replaced.

If it goes ahead, the order will come into force on January 8, 2024, for a period of up to 18 months. The road will only be closed at specific times during that period.
