Tackling anti-social behaviour, drug crime and nuisance drivers are policing priorities in Stevenage, Herts police have promised.

Each of the three Safer Neighbourhood Teams across the town have set their next round of local policing priorities for December to April, informed by feedback from residents.

In central Stevenage, the priorities are tackling anti-social behaviour in the town centre and speeding in surrounding roads.

In south Stevenage, the priorities are tackling drugs use and associated crime, vehicle-related nuisance behaviour and anti-social behaviour at the Broadwater shops and surrounding area.

In north Stevenage, the priorities are tackling anti-social behaviour in Durham Road, York Road, Rippon Road and St Nicholas, and vehicle-related nuisance behaviour.

This will be done through increased police presence, engagement events and targeted enforcement.

Safer Neighbourhood Teams consist of police officers and PCSOs and work alongside local partners to focus on solving long and short-term neighbourhood issues, such as anti-social behaviour, speeding, criminal damage and drug-related crime.

They are in addition to the 24/7 response police officers, who deal with emergency calls, and the teams of detectives in the local crime unit, who investigate the more serious crimes.

Neighbourhood inspector Nick Redfearn said: "Feedback from members of the public plays a big part in the decision-making, and information provided via the constabulary’s community voice platform ‘echo’ and our OWL member survey is used to help shape the priorities, alongside an analysis of local data.

"We want to ensure that local policing resources are focusing on the issues that matter most, so I’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to share their views with us."
