Hertfordshire police are making enquiries after two trees were cut down in Stevenage Old Town.
The cherry trees, in Southend Close, appear to have been newly-planted and to have been cut down with a saw.
A spokesperson for Stevenage Borough Council described the incident as a "mindless act of vandalism, and said that it "will cost us time and money, with each tree costing £150".
