The Argos store at the Roaring Meg retail park in Stevenage has now closed.
The long-serving shop served its last customers on Tuesday, November 22, with a new counter service opening at the Sainsbury's store in Poplars on Wednesday, November 23.
Earlier this year, Argos announced plans to shut 100 stores within 12 months. The retailer - which is owned by Sainsbury's - is seeking to move away from standalone stores and towards branches within Sainsbury's. The Sainsbury's store at Coreys Mill in Stevenage already has an Argos branch.
Argos recently revealed that more sales went through branches inside Sainsbury's supermarkets than their standalone Argos stores for the first time in 2022.

A spokesperson for Argos said: “To make shopping more convenient for customers and to enable us to invest where it matters most, we are relocating many of our standalone Argos stores to Sainsbury’s – this includes our Stevenage Argos store."
They said that the new counter will enable "customers to purchase thousands of technology, home and toy products from Argos while picking up their groceries".
We asked Argos whether any staff will lose their jobs as a result of the move, and a spokesperson responded: “We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and we are supporting them in any we can, including offering colleagues the opportunity to redeploy to other roles within Sainsbury’s and Argos.”
