A scheme to regenerate Hitchin Market has been unveiled, with new signs installed as work gets under way.
The colourful signage has been put up across the site to give it a new lease of life, thanks to support and funding of Visit Hitchin, Hitchin Market Ltd, North Herts Council, Future Prosperity Fund, Platinum Press and Aitch Creative.
Town centre manager Tom Hardy is now "determined to preserve the future prosperity", and hopes to see more people shopping in the market.
"For more than 1,000 years, Hitchin Market has been a cornerstone of our town’s identity and a gathering place for people from all walks of life," he said.
"However, as times have changed, our market has faced its own set of challenges.
"With the Market Regeneration Scheme, we are determined to preserve the future prosperity of Hitchin Market and it’s value as an attraction to the town, also ushering in a new era of prosperity for whole retail community in Hitchin.
"Our market has a special place in the hearts of our local residents and visitors from further afield.

"This regeneration scheme is not just about bricks and mortar; it's about rekindling the spirit of our community.
"We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and prosperous environment that honours our traditions while embracing the future.
"Hitchin Market is the only place in the town you can trade regularly without the need to sign up to a long term shop lease.
"We are working with local organisations to encourage home businesses to take a pitch in this newly revitalised space and test your products with the local residents of Hitchin and the surrounding area.
"It is hoped that this scheme will boost footfall and encourage new market traders to come and take a pitch."
Hitchin Market is one of the largest outdoor markets in the south of England, and features more than 150 covered stalls
Trading days are Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with specialist market days throughout the year, including a weekly Antiques Markets every Friday and Craft & Farmers once a month.
