Planning permission has been granted for the former Poundland store in Stevenage town centre to be turned into a bank.
Stevenage Borough Council has approved an application from Lloyds Banking Group to change the use of the vacant unit on the corner of Queensway, near The Forum, from retail to a bank.
Lloyds currently has a branch at the other side of the town centre, in Town Square, but left the High Street in 2018 "due to customers using it less often", and pulled out of Letchworth last year.

This year alone, banks including HSBC, Barclays, NatWest and Lloyds have collectively closed, or scheduled the closure of, more than 350 branches across the country.
