Hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds gathered together in Stevenage yesterday to pay their respects and remember the fallen on Remembrance Sunday.
Stevenage mayor Myla Arceno, the town's MP Stephen McPartland, Baroness Sharon Taylor, the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Robert Voss, councillors, representatives from the Royal British Legion and other dignitaries gathered at the Bowling Green in the High Street for the Remembrance Sunday parade and service.
The parade of many community groups and organisations marched from the Primett Road car park, through the High Street to the War Memorial on the Bowling Green, where the Service of Remembrance and laying of wreaths were held.
Afterwards, Councillor Arceno said: "We are grateful for those who made the service a Sunday to remember as a united community - Stevenage Royal British Legion, Scouts, Stevenage Borough Council, communities, schools, churches, businesses, organisations and individuals.
"The day started with an early morning cadets' inspection - RAF, army, sea cadets, marines and St John - at Primett Road, then at Springfield House to welcome the guests - Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Robert Voss, Deputy Lieutenant, Baroness Sharon Taylor, dignitaries and council members.
"The service and wreath-laying at the war memorial, with march past and salute, were truly a moving Remembrance Sunday.
"Thank you to all who joined us, and those many teams behind the scenes who made this day possible."
