A Sunday League footballer from Stevenage has gone viral after scoring a wonder goal to win a match for his team.

Charlie Unwin - popularly known as Chunwin - plays for Chells Rovers in the Hitchin Sunday League, and bagged two goals in cup action at the weekend as his team beat The Cock 5-4.

Charlie's first was a peach, but the second was even better - with some on social media even suggesting he should be up for the Puskás Award, given each year for the most beautiful goal scored in world football.

And it was a meaningful goal too, being the winner in a back-and-forth 5-4 victory that put Rovers through to the quarter-finals.

Charlie was even involved in two of the other goals, including a superb outside-of-the-foot assist for one.

He told the Comet that it wasn't his first late winner this season - but that it's definitely the best goal he's ever scored.

"I couldn't believe it, when I saw it going in the top corner ...

"A rush of adrenaline went through me - when I ran off celebrating, I was thinking of celebrations but I just stumbled to the floor, I couldn't even pick my feet up!

"My teammate's flicked the ball high up, scooped it, and I could see the defender coming into my right side.

"So I shielded the defender off, wrapped my leg round him to try and get a connection on it, and it came off!"

He joked that he "might even retire on that one" as he doubts he'll ever be able to score a better goal.

Charlie didn't have too long to enjoy his feat in the moment though, as his team had to see out a final minute of play to secure the victory - and then he had to help take the nets down as well.

But, taking it all in after the final whistle, he says it felt "so good" to be able to score the goal that put his team through to the next round of the cup.

Unsurprisingly, his teammates "couldn't stop talking about the goal, and the group chat has been non-stop too".

He's received messages from around the world, with strangers getting in touch "to say it's the best goal they've ever seen".

Charlie, a striker who plays in the number ten role, has been playing Sunday League football all his life, and for Chells Rovers for two years.

And while he's never been offered a deal with a Saturday team - he reckons because he's "quite a small player" - he adds: "Listen, if somebody comes in now, I'd definitely play a bit of semi-pro!"
