A canopy in Stevenage town centre is being demolished after an "urgent health and safety" issue was found.
The canopy, outside the Job Centre, Indigo Sun and Pizza GoGo at The Forum, was found to be "in significant disrepair".
A Notification of Demolition was submitted to Stevenage Borough Council on Tuesday, November 7, stating that the work to take the canopy down had begun on October 9.
The work is expected to conclude around the end of November.
A letter sent to the council to notify them of the demolition job stated that the canopy "poses a health and safety risk to pedestrians within the town centre as the glass used is not fit for purpose and there are corroded steels and rotten timber fixings".

"The removal of the canopy is therefore urgent in the interests of pedestrian safety, and to allow access back to this area of the town centre.
"It is noted that canopies are a prominent architectural feature within the town centre, and as such our client commits to work with the council to consider options for a suitable replacement."
