A consultation has been launched to redevelop maisonettes in Stevenage into 11 new flats, which would be retained by Stevenage Borough Council.
According to the council, the current properties at 22-24 Ellis Avenue "are of a standard that do not meet modern expectations of high quality housing".
The new scheme would see eight two-bedroom and three one-bedroom flats created, and would have 16 parking spaces, including the current on street provision that exists for the properties at the site.
The proposed scheme would house people in Stevenage who are eligible for council housing, with allocations made from the housing register.
Deputy leader of the council, Councillor Jeannette Thomas, portfolio holder for housing and housing development, said: “The proposals at 22-24 Ellis Avenue form part of our ongoing commitment to providing high quality homes, with 486 already completed.
"We want to hear your views on the proposals for 11 new homes, which will be used to help us shape the development.”
The consultation page adds: "Stevenage Borough Council’s Housing Development Team is proposing a new housing scheme at 22-24 Ellis Avenue.
"Together with an appointed architect [Twenty 20], who has an abundance of experience designing and building new housing; Stevenage BC will work closely with local residents to develop a design suitable to submit to the planning authority.
"The project team will then look to seek planning permission to develop the current properties at the site which consist of former maisonette’s which are of a standard which don’t meet modern expectations of high quality housing.
"The proposed scheme will include the construction of 11 new homes which will be retained for council ownership."
