More than 120 volunteers gathered to pick up litter for Hitchin Forum's Big Autumn Clean-Up on Sunday (October 15).
Organiser Bill Sellicks said: "Once again several local groups contributed to the efforts of our regular volunteers to clear a total of 15 areas in the town.
"The Dell, as ever, was cleared by Holy Saviour Guides. It is always a major litter hotspot, often provides interesting ‘finds’ and nearly always tops the table for the number of bags of litter collected. This year, they found over 100 aluminium drink cans.
"19 members of the Bubbleworks Community running group, based at Hitchin Beer Shop, fanned-out around the town and cleared roadside locations between our usual main centres.
"Two Bubbleworks members helped a team from Hitchin Tennis Club clear Bancroft Recreation Ground, and residents from the Purwell area and others worked on the recreation ground there very successfully again."

The group noted the amount of litter has decreased overall, partly due to the council's contractors and partly to 'unsung local heroes' cleaning up their areas each week.
Hitchin Forum thanked the BID for use of the litter-pickers, the town centre rangers who helped distribute them, and North Herts Council for their support.
The next litter pick will take place in March 2024. with the date still to be announced. For more information, email hflitterpick@gmail.com.
