One of the great joys of representing Hitchin and the villages is being able to see first hand all of the fantastic ways in our community continues to thrive and support local people.
In the month since I wrote my last column for The Comet, I’ve met with volunteers at Clubfest – a great event put on by Hitchin Cricket Club and Hitchin Blue Harts Hockey Club.
I spoke with volunteers from MCR Pathways about some of the great work they do mentoring vulnerable local young people and how we can support them.
I visited Hitchin manufacturing business Royde & Tucker – a big local employer creating economic growth and jobs right here in Hitchin.
We discussed local business support and how we can continue to make Hitchin a town of opportunity.
I met with volunteers from Carers in Herts – a charity who do some fantastic work supporting local carers.
I visited the Triangle Garden’s summer fete – a great chance to celebrate a charity doing really important work to allow people in Hitchin to connect with one another and the natural environment.
I attended Offley Riding Club’s Horse Show – supporting young people in our villages who want to learn how to ride.
Of course, that’s just a small selection of some of the brilliant local organisations that I meet with each month.
Moving forwards, I’ll continue meeting with constituents and community groups at my regular surgeries, at events in town, and where you are – on your doorstep during one of my door-knocking sessions in Hitchin and the villages, or at a special surgery or pub surgery put on so that you can share your views with me.
And my constituency office is now at the heart of Hitchin town centre, so do say hello if you see me out and about in town!
Hitchin and the villages are more than just places I represent in Parliament; it is the community my family calls home. Every single day it is a privilege to be your local Member of Parliament.
I look forward to continuing to work with everyone in our area to make Hitchin and the villages an even better place to live, work and spend time.
