Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was seriously injured in an underpass in Stevenage on Saturday.

At around 5pm, it was reported that two men were involved in an altercation in an underpass between Ripon Road and Canterbury Way.

Hertfordshire police have now confirmed that a 28-year-old man was taken to hospital by paramedics with serious injuries believed to be stab wounds to the top of the thigh, though not deemed to be life-changing.

The suspect is still at large.

Detective Constable Nick Kent said: "I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact me.

"Additionally, if you have CCTV of the area at the time of the incident, please review this to see if it has vital information that could support our investigation."

Detective Inspector Nicholas Rega added: "I understand this incident will worry residents, but the men involved were thought to be known to each other and our investigation is progressing.

"We are doing all we can to trace the suspect in connection to this incident, so any information that you feel is useful, please report this to us."
