Hitchin BID has provided an update on the vacant units in the town centre, with plenty set to be filled very soon.

A host of sites across the town stand empty, including big units such as Poundland and M&Co, as well as those that recently saw their tenants depart like The Works or Molly's Tea Room.

Businesses are flocking to the town though, with Oliver Bonas and The White Company arriving on Bancroft, taking over from Paperchase and Joules.

And as reported by the Comet, units in the former Hawkins of Hitchin department store are being filled too, with two new bars receiving planning permission.

A let has also been agreed for the former TSB site Brand Street, although planning permission for the proposed bar is still required.

Hitchin BID revealed that more lets have been agreed on units across the town, with just three sites available.

"Lots of local residents have been asking about the status of empty shops in the town centre," read a Facebook post. 

"For various reasons, not all empty units are available to rent. We currently have three out of 27 ground floor units available in the town centre."
