Broadwater Day 2023 is set to go ahead this weekend after previously being postponed following legal action from Stevenage Borough Council (SBC).

The event, organised by the Longmeadow and Bragbury End Residents Group (LBERG) had originally been planned for June this year, but was cancelled by LBERG the day before it was due to take place.

That decision followed SBC filing for an injunction to stop the event going ahead, as LBERG had not sought permission or a licence for it.

Now, LBERG have received permission from SBC to hold a revised, smaller event this weekend.

Rather than the multi-day extravaganza previously planned, Broadwater Day 2023 will be held on a single day, Sunday, August 27, with pre-recorded music, stalls, food and drink, and a variety of classic fairground rides to enjoy.

There will be around 15 stalls with various traders, with charities such as Kaotic Angels given stalls free of charge.

Fun for the kids includes rides such as tea cups, swings, and bouncy castles, as well as lots of sweet treats - donuts, ice cream and candy floss among them.

Dog-lovers can watch a variety of pooches compete in a day-long dog show, with heats followed up with a grand final.

A number of mascots will be around too, including Sonic and friends, Kung Fu Panda, Donatello, and a T-Rex - or two!

Broadwater Day is a long-running community event, and was first held in 1971. After an almost decade-long hiatus, it was revived in 2019 by the volunteers who are part of LBERG.

Broadwater Day 2023 will be held at Shephalbury Park on Sunday, August 27, between 11am and 4pm.
