A mum from Stevenage appeared on ITV's This Morning earlier this week alongside her son, Logan, to discuss her hugely popular series of children's books about disabilities.
Gemma Keir began writing the awareness-raising books after her son Logan was diagnosed with a rare condition called DiGeorge syndrome, which can cause learning difficulties and heart problems, when he was three years old.
While Gemma received support at the time, she wanted to find a way to explain Logan's condition to him in a child-friendly way.
That desire led her to write a book - titled The Abilities In Me - in 2019 that has since spawned a much larger series of books about children with a range of disabilities.
Gemma has written all of them herself, covering conditions such as cerebral palsy, ADHD, epilepsy, Down's Syndrome, spina bifida, diabetes, and congenital heart defects. Her most popular book is about autism, and helps explain the condition to children.
There are now 22 books in total - with six more in the works - and they have sold a total of more than 80,000 copies in the last four years, including a year off for Gemma around the birth of her third child, Savannah-Rose, to join Logan and Caleb.
Gemma and Logan's desire to support children with disabilities and their parents has expanded further, too, through The Abilities In Me Foundation.
All of the books are written voluntarily, with any profits made going towards the work of the foundation.
They provide inclusive workshops to schools, educating children about specific disabilities, and have recently travelled as far afield as Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland.
Gemma's work has been recognised at the highest levels - in 2021, she received a Points of Light award from the prime minister in recognition of her support for children with disabilities.
Her appearance on This Morning - co-hosted by Craig Doyle and Josie Gibson - with Logan didn't go unrewarded either as the team treated Logan, who is a big fan of Lego Friends, to a VIP trip to Legoland Windsor.
Writing on Facebook after their appearance, Gemma said: "We're over the moon to share this amazing experience with you all. Logan absolutely shined, and we couldn't be prouder!
