Scouts from Hitchin have made the 6,000-mile trip from Heathrow to South Korea for the 25th World Scout Jamboree.

They will join 40,000 other Scouts from across the world for a celebration of unity, community and togetherness.

World Scout Jamborees are held once every four years, with participants selected two years ahead of the event so that they can focus on their fundraising skills to make the trip happen.

One of those who has made the journey is 14-year-old Cameron Hone. He said: "I am so excited to land in Seoul and start exploring! I am looking forward to the DMZ tour the most as Korean history is so interesting!

"I also can’t wait to learn more about Korea, practice my Korean and take in new experiences.

"It will be so amazing to find mutual likes, and interests with Scouts from all over the world with such different cultures to my own!”

This year's jamboree is being hosted in Gunsan-si from August 1 to August 12, and is the second time South Korea has held the event.

Bear Grylls, the Chief Scout, said: "Scouts from all corners of the UK are travelling over 12 hours to South Korea for the 25th World Scouts Jamboree.

"This year 4,500 young people from the UK and 40,000 opthers from nearly every country on the planet are coming together to take on new adventures, make lifelong friendships and experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"The theme of the Jamboree this year is to 'Draw your Dream', representing our willingness to accept young people's ideas and opinions, and create an opportunity for them to make their Jamboree dreams come true.

"I’m so proud to be a part of a movement that puts young people first by helping almost half a million people develop skills for life.”
