A stall in Stevenage indoor market has reopened with a new management team.

Mercy Mitchell has taken over Herts Hair and Beauty from its previous owner, Paula, and celebrated the reopening on Saturday, July 29, with Stephen McPartland MP and the mayor of Stevenage, Cllr Myla Arceno.

The stall specialises in hair and beauty products for African, Afro-Caribbean, Asian and European people, and aims to keep its prices below those found on Amazon.

Mercy is happy to order in products for people when requested, and will be offering hair braiding at the stall, as well as workshops for those wishing to learn how to braid and weave.

She took over the stall around six weeks ago, and also owns Dapper Togs, an indoor market stall selling school uniform, workwear, and embroidering and printing on garments.

Mercy is keen for her stall to attract people from further afield, and said: "I want people to come to Stevenage to shop for their hair products because Herts Hair & Beauty is the best hair shop in Hertfordshire."

She will be assisted by her husband, Brad, her sister, Coco, and Francina, who will be working at the stall alongside her studies in art and design.

Cllr Joan Lloyd, executive member for resources and transformation, said:

“After launching Dapper Togs 5 years ago, specialising in school and other uniforms, it’s great to see Brad and Mercy increase their business portfolio to include Herts Hair and Beauty too.

"They’re an integral part of our community and we have been working closely with them to ensure they’re able to run both businesses side by side.

"You can find their friendly faces near to the Park Place entrance, so do go along and pay them a visit.

“The Indoor Market is a great place for people to shop local, with lots of different products on offer. If you’re unsure what you need, just ask!

"All the traders have a wealth of knowledge about their products, and some offer different activity workshops too, so check them out!

"It’s fantastic to see the Indoor Market stalls flourish, providing local products, great service and at reasonable prices too.”
