Could we be seeing more of North Hertfordshire in movies and on TV soon? The council hopes so, after launching a new filming location campaign.

North Herts Council's #LightsCameraNorthHerts scheme includes signing up to Fame Pro, a film permit agency which supports councils with processing filming applications smoothly and quickly, as well as promoting North Herts to production companies for filming opportunities.

And plenty of big and small screen productions have visited the district, including Beetlejuice 2, which saw Winona Ryder film at the former Princess Helena College site in Preston back in May.

Scenes for My Policeman, starring Harry Styles, were shot at Hitchin's outdoor pool in 2021, while the town's residents might have noticed the familiar site of Windmill Hill on BBC One over the past year, as it features on idents, the short clips played between shows.

Dr Foster, featuring Suranne Jones, was also shot in several locations around the town, while Letchworth was used for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's cult classic, The World's End.

"Being a film-friendly council is about maximising the benefits of bringing productions to the district and making it a positive experience for everyone involved," said Councillor Keith Hoskins, North Herts Council’s executive member for enterprise and arts.

"We’ve already had a wealth of filming taking place across the district, including My Policeman, Dr Foster, Tell Me Everything and of course The World's End.

"I never tire of seeing Windmill Hill featured in the BBC ident ahead of the news too.

"We want to expand that even further and encourage more potential film and television productions to come here and put North Herts firmly on the map.

"The economic and tourism benefits of a production filming in our area and the jobs it can create for local crews, as well as local businesses across the supply chain, is something we don't want North Herts to miss out on."
