Questions have been raised about whether Newvu in Stevenage town centre will ever be open for business again.

Multiple residents have asked on Facebook about whether the eSports venue is still open, as its shutters have been down for multiple weeks.

The venue was previously very active on social media, but has not posted on Facebook or Twitter since April 30. They have failed to respond to messages that we sent them on both platforms.

Newvu has also removed any reference to Stevenage from its website. As recently as March, there was a dedicated webpage for their Stevenage venue.

We contacted Newvu's representatives multiple times, but they declined to comment on this story.

It is unclear what has happened to bookings that people had at Newvu, and what will happen for those with gift cards.

Newvu opened in August 2022, and its co-founder Andrew Bishop told the Comet then that the company had a ten-year lease on its unit at 88 Queensway.

The unit spans three floors and is in the block that recently saw a planning application submitted to turn the upper floors into flats.

Last year, Newvu became Stevenage FC's official eSports partner.

The company also has links to Grilla, which was recently announced as Stevenage FC's new shirt sponsor. Both Newvu and Grilla are listed as GRAFT Ventures brands on their website.

Update

After previously declining to comment, a spokesperson for GRAFT reached out to us shortly after this article was published.

Andrew Bishop, co-founder of GRAFT and Newvu, told us: "Unfortunately, due to changes in the economic climate NEWVU has not been able to sustainably operate at our Stevenage site.

"We continue to support local groups through our digital academy and online training tools and look forward to working closely with the recently promoted Stevenage FC, to deliver as many opportunities as we can for residents.

"We urge anyone with any questions about the closure to get in touch at team@letsgraft.com."
