Herts Fire and Rescue Service is "scaling down" its response to a fire in Baldock industrial estate today, but roads remain closed and residents continue to be advised to keep their windows shut and avoid the area.

The service tweeted at 7am to say that they are "scaling down" their response, though they will remain on the scene "for some time".

The roundabout at the junction of London Road, South Road, and Tesco remains closed. An earlier tweet from the service asks people "to avoid the area throughout the day".

Firefighters were called to the scene in London Road at 6.15pm yesterday (Tuesday, July 11), and they declared the blaze a "major incident".

Herts police and the East of England Ambulance Service also attended, with no casualties reported at present.

A spokesperson for the fire service described it as a "large fire" involving "multiple business units", with 15 fire fighting appliances and an array of other equipment being used at the scene.

Herts Fire and Rescue Service was joined by Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Beds team was called to the fire at 6.56pm on July 11, with crews from Shefford and Stopsley attending as well as a water carrier from Toddington.

As of 6.45am this morning, a spokesperson for Beds Fire and Rescue Service reported that "the fire is still ongoing and relief crews have been attedning overnight".

Local residents have been affected by water and power outages since the fire began. UK Power Networks estimates that affected addresses with postcodes beginning 'SG7 6', 'SG9 0', and 'SG8 6' will regain power between 3.30pm and 5pm today.
