Garden House Hospice Care in Letchworth recently received a generous legacy gift, which included a ring to be auctioned to raise funds for the palliative care services they provide.

After receiving the gift, the hospice reached out to local jeweller Gatwards of Hitchin, who were more than happy to help auction the ring, raising an impressive £7,000.

Charlotte Gatward of Gatwards of Hitchin said: "It was an absolute pleasure to support the hospice by selling the ring.

"Garden House Hospice Care is a charity close to our hearts and we’ve helped them often over the years by donating jewellery for auctions and events.

"The ring actually wasn’t sold in our shop, it was sold via Facebook. From the moment we uploaded the stunning photos of the ring to the site, it generated large interest on social media.

"In fact, we received lots of offers on the first day and then decided to extend the bidding for another day. When we went back to the winner, she was absolutely delighted to have purchased the ring.

“The ring’s most distinctive part was the quality of the diamonds, and the clarity of the ring was very striking. All of the team at Gatwards would have loved to own it themselves, as it was really stunning.

"The hospice has touched all of us in some way and you never know when you or a loved one will need palliative care, so it’s really important to support the great work that they do.”

The Comet: The ring was left to the hospice in a will

Speaking on behalf of the hospice, fundraising coordinator Harry Folgate added: “We’re extremely grateful to have been supported by Charlotte and her fantastic team at Gatwards over the years.

"When we needed a platform to help us raise vital funds for our patients through the proceeds of the ring, they helped us without hesitation. The community has stepped in to help our charity massively through difficult times in the last few years, and this is a great example of fantastic local support.

"Thank you so much to Gatwards, and the recipient of the amazing ring, for helping us to make a big difference to the lives of our patients and their families.

"We couldn’t continue to provide the best possible care for the people in our community without the support of local businesses.

"Please do get in touch with us if your workplace would like to find out more about working in partnership with Garden House Hospice Care.”
