Roads were closed in Stevenage this morning (Thursday, June 22) after a road traffic collision.
Herts police were called at around 6.05am to Monkswood Way, where it was reported that a white van had collided with a roadside barrier and overturned onto its side, leaving the driver trapped.
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said that they were called "to a road traffic accident involving a car and a van on the roundabout on Monkswood Way".
In a statement posted on Facebook, police said they were "dealing with an incident on Monkswood Way ... at the junction with Broadhall Way", and are advising people to avoid the area due to Monkswood Way and "some of the surrounding roads" being closed.
Police officers attended the scene, alongside two fire engines from Stevenage station, four ambulances from the East of England Ambulance Service, and an ambulance officer vehicle.
Firefighters worked with the ambulance service to free the driver from his vehicle. He was taken to Lister Hospital with injuries that a police spokesperson described as "serious".
Road closures remained in place while enquiries were carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision. At around 2pm, Herts Highways tweeted that the A602 had reopened.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the non-emergency number 101, quoting ISR 111 of June 22, 2023.
