A pub in North Hertfordshire has re-opened after a £180,000 investment.

The Plume of Feathers, in Little Wymondley, has been transformed both inside and out with an enhanced beer garden, refurbished indoor areas, and new food and drink menus.

Sarah Woollcott, the pub's licensee, used the investment from Admiral Taverns, a community pub company, to overhaul the pub just in time for summer.

The pub's beer garden, which has a natural stream running through it, has been given a new lease of life and seats up to 60 people, with newly-planted greenery also in place. Even when summer fades, a covered deck area with heaters means you'll be able to continue enjoying the outside.

Inside, the original characteristics of the pub have been combined with newly-updated features such as recyled furniture and soft furnishings, with an eclectic mix of vintage wooden furniture aimed at giving the pub a rustic-chic feel.

Sarah has previously run pubs in London and Reading, and will be running the establishment with her daughter, Lily.

Following the refurbishment, she said: “I’ve never been happier in my life than when I was running pubs – I love everything about it but particularly the social aspect and meeting new people.

"Having spent so much time in the city I am delighted to return to the countryside and I’m excited to bring the Plume of Feathers to the heart of the community.

"I can’t wait to unveil its new look to residents, and I hope to make it the go-to social hub for everyone.”

Sarah has launched a new food menu, including Sunday roasts, and modern twists on classic pub meals such as cottage pies, homemade burgers. There are plenty of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes on offer too.

When it comes to drinks, the pub has curated a wine and champagne list with local supplier, Hedley Wright Wine Merchants, and will be introducing a menu of more than 25 gins, including some from local distilleries.

Mick Sheridan, business development manager at Admiral Taverns, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Sarah to the Plume of Feathers! Her passion and vision is extraordinary and I have total confidence that the pub will become an integral part of the community.

"I look forward to seeing what the future holds and I wish her the very best of luck.”
