A driver who tested positive for cocaine and was at nearly three times the legal alcohol limit was involved in a high-speed crash near Stevenage this morning.
The incident occurred at 5.30am today (Thursday, June 15) on the A1(M) southbound, with officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) Road Policing Unit attending the scene.
Following the incident, the motorway was closed southbound between junctions seven and eight. It re-opened around 6.30am.
A breath alcohol reading of 90ug was taken of the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash. The legal limit is 35ug.

Earlier today, the BCH Road Policing Unit tweeted: "The suspected driver of this car was involved in a high speed RTC [road traffic collision] this morning and provided a breath alcohol reading of 90ug (legal limit 35ug) and positive for cocaine. By sheer luck only minor injuries reported. #onearrested #dontdriveimpaired.
