Hundreds of performers and artists from Stevenage and the surrounding area are preparing to take centre stage for this month's Stevenage Festival, which begins today (Monday, June 12).
Showcasing a broad range of talent from across the town, the centrepiece of the Festival is a series of performances at the Gordon Craig Theatre, featuring local dance schools, amateur dramatic groups, choirs, poetry groups, primary and secondary schools and young musicians.
This is accompanied by a series of fringe events around the town, ranging from an exhibition of art and photography, to writing workshops, open mic nights and craft demonstrations.
Festival chairman Ron Walker said: “This is our first proper Festival since the lockdowns dealt such a blow to performing arts and community events.

"We are delighted now to see so many local people of all ages getting involved, sharing activities that they love.
"There’s something for everyone so we hope people will take a look at the programme and come out and support us in some way, particularly our talented youngsters."
Stevenage Festival, founded in 1994, is run by volunteers and supported by Stevenage Arts Guild, Hertfordshire Music Service and the Gordon Craig Theatre.
It takes place every two years to provide a showcase for local amateur arts groups, and this year runs from June 12 to June 25.
