Norton Road in Letchworth was closed yesterday afternoon (Thursday, May 25) after two air ambulances were called to a medical emergency and a driver was taken to hospital "in a serious condition".
Patrolling police officers were flagged down by a member of the public on Norton Road shortly before 3.45pm to report that a driver had suffered a medical episode at the wheel.
Herts police officers assisted at the scene until the ambulance service attended, and closed the road. It was re-opened at 5.20pm.

The East of England Ambulance Service had been called at 3.43pm, with an ambulance, rapid response vehicle, ambulance officer and first responder in attendance.
Two air ambulances from Essex & Herts Air Ambulance also attended the incident.
The patient was conveyed by ground ambulance to the Lister Hospital, with a spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service saying he was "in a serious condition".
