In the mood for tapas this weekend, but don't know where to eat? We've got you covered with our list of seven of the best tapas restaurants in Hertfordshire.
1. Los Reyes - Hitchin
When it comes to tapas, you'll be hard pushed to find anywhere better than Los Reyes.
The award-winning restaurant on Bucklersbury offers a wide range of small plates, with the very best of Spanish seafoods, chesses and meats.
As a huge fan of Los Reyes, my personal favourites include champinon al ajilo, a dish of wild mushrooms, garlic, fried quail’s egg, bruschetta and truffle oil, and Gambas al ajilo,
king prawns cooked in garlic butter or salt baked.
Alongside the food, the service is second to none, while the old brick and wooden frame building provides a cosy space, perfect for a date night with your significant other.
While maybe a bit of the pricey side, it is absolutely worth it. We can't recommend Los Reyes enough and it really is a must-visit in Hitchin.
2. Bar Azita - Hitchin and Harpenden
Bar Azita has two restaurants in Hertfordshire offering the best in Spanish cuisine.
Time spent in Spain inspired owners Nick and Julie to open spots in Hitchin and Harpenden, and they are much-loved places to eat in both towns.
Open for lunch and dinner, all your favourites are on offer in a warm and welcoming space, and at a very resonable price too.
If you haven't eaten at Bar Azita yet, then you really should.
3. El bar de tapas – Stevenage
One problem with tapas is finding it at an affordable price, but we think we've done just that.
El bar de tapas in Stevenage Old Town is a popular and much-loved restaurant, and with most dishes ranging from £4 to £7, you can certainly enjoy some great Spanish food without breaking the bank.
Among the restaurant's best dishes is Carrilleras, their secret recipe of slow roasted pork cheeks and onions in white wine, but there is plenty to choose from if that doesn't take your fancy.
This really is one of the best places to eat in Hertfordshire, and you should really go and check it out.
4. Churro Boyz - Letchworth
This popular Letchworth eating spot has only a small tapas menu, but it's the place to come for Spain's favourite dessert.
Serving up churros in so many tasty varieties, including Nutella, Oreo and Biscoff, anyone with a sweet tooth should pay them a visit.
Churro Boyz also have shakes on offer, as well as hot and cold drinks.
5. Marquis of Granby - Harpenden
Another spot with a limited by nevertheless tasty tapas menu is Harpenden pub the Marquis of Granby.
Using locally sourced ingredients, the small plates are available all week, but they really come into focus on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, with innovative and unique special dishes cooked up for hungry customers.
Among the best regular menu items is slow-cooked pork belly with chorizo and padron peppers, and large Argentinian prawns in fresh chilli, paprika and garlic.
If you don't fancy tapas, they have pub classics as well.
6. The Orchid - Cuffley
The Orchid in Cuffley is a café, flower shop and tapas bar. Yes, we couldn't believe it either.
Served from 6pm to 10pm, their menu has plenty of variety with some of the best Spanish food around, including cured meats and cheese.
Their paella dishes are fantastic too, so why not get yourself down to The Orchid.
7. Darcey's - Hemel Hempstead
Serving up coffee, brunch, drinks and most importantly tapas, Darcey's at Apsley Lock is a great place for some Spanish food and cocktails with friends.
With plenty of classic tapas dishes and paella on offer, you really can't go wrong with this spot in Hemel.
