Hertfordshire was hit by a severe thunderstorm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), with the heavy downpour leaving cars stranded and homes flooded.
In Stevenage, flooded roads included Fairlands Way, St George's Way, Eastbourne Avenue, London Road and Martins Way, causing traffic congestion.
Hertfordshire police said they had experienced "a high volume of 999 emergency calls involving cars being stuck in flooded roads following the downpour", and encouraged drivers "not to try and drive through large flooded areas or roads".
A spokesperson warned: "We need to be able to respond to emergencies and will not be able to rescue drivers from their vehicles."
