Shocked residents in Western Way have been reacting after a two men were arrested following a stabbing last night.

Police were called at 10.46pm on Thursday, April 19, to reports of a man being assaulted on the road in Grange Estate.

Officers and the ambulance service attended, and located a man with suspected stab wounds. He was taken to hospital, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Two 21-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of GBH and remain in police custody.

Comet reporter, Pearce Bates, has been at the scene since this morning, with Western Way cordoned off, but he still managed to speak to shocked residents about the incident.

Some were awoken last night as officers rushed to the scene, with one man saying: "There were lots of police from about 11.30pm last night.

"The wife had to sleep downstairs because the dog wouldn’t stop barking. There were lots of police, a big police wagon, everything.

"I took my son to school this morning nearby, and asked the police. They said it was a serious assault. It must be serious because they’ve been there for a long time."

Another resident added: "There was a heavy police presence last night, they knocked on my door at about 11.30pm to ask if I had any CCTV footage.

"There was also a police helicopter at the time."

Not everyone was woken up by the sound of police sirens though, with one woman only finding out this morning.

"I only found out when I woke up this morning," she said.

"Apparently a man has been stabbed several times in the back. Hopefully it all gets sorted soon."
