New businesses are coming to Hitchin after it was revealed that lets had been agreed on a number of town centre units.

In a Facebook post, Visit Hitchin - which is run by Hitchin BID & Hitchin Initiative - updated residents on the future of the town and what retail units are set to be filled soon.

Lets have been agreed for the empty Bancroft sites that were formerly home to Prezzo and Monsoon, while new tenants are also set to move into Churchgate units that were previously occupied by Bronzing Shop and Elegance & Splendour.

They also revealed the unit which used to house Poundland in the High Street is "under development", but no news was provided on M&Co next door, which is closing this Easter after the retailer entered administration.

"Lots of local residents have been asking about the status of empty shops in the town centre," read the Visit Hitchin post.

"For various reasons, not all empty units are available to rent. We currently have five out of 17 ground floor units available in the town centre."

Among those units available are the former bank branches of Lloyds TSB and Halifax.

When asked by a resident if they could revealed which businesses were coming to the town soon, Visit Hitchin replied: "Unfortunately not, business names of agreed lets are confidential until they’ve exchanged."
