A care home in Baldock has said it has recently made improvements after being rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and given six months to improve.

Providence Court, in Baldock, received the rating following a CQC inspection in November 2022.

The inspection report published in January concluded that the service provided by Providence Court is in 'special measures'.

This means that the location has been given six months to make "significant improvements".

If these improvements are not made, the CQC will "begin the process of preventing the provider from operating this service.

"This will usually lead to the cancellation of their registration, or to varying the conditions of the registration."

The report itself found "widespread and significant shortfalls in service leadership" and "a lack of attention to detail and recognising care issues".

The report also found that "the culture in the home did not always promote dignity or ensure people's needs were always met".

When approached for comment, a spokesperson for Providence Court told the Comet: "Our team and organisation prides itself on delivering great care and a great quality of life for the people who make their home with us.

"We were therefore very disappointed with the feedback we received from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following their inspection in November last year.

"We know we have fallen short of the expectations of our residents and their loved ones, and the values we strive to uphold.

"We have made significant improvements since November, which include: increasing the number of care colleagues working in the home; support for each floor to provide additional oversight; providing one-to-one coaching for colleagues on dignity, privacy, and care best practice; providing additional daily in-home management support from our operations team; and holding regular reviews by our regional manager and director of operations.

"As we make sure the improvement plan is embedded and sustained, we are confident the home is performing at a far higher standard than last year.

"We continue to work closely with Hertfordshire County Council and the CQC to deliver on our improvement plan, and we are confident we can make and sustain the changes needed to ensure residents consistently receive a high standard of care and the quality of life they deserve."
