A tree is the source of joy and festivity during the Christmas period.

However, once Christmas is over getting rid of a real tree can be a difficult task, particularly if it is large and heavy.
With that in mind, we've put together a list of how to recycle Christmas trees in your area.
Stevenage
Real Christmas trees in Stevenage can be recycled by placing them inside or next to your brown bin, on any day until the end of January.
Stevenage Borough Council have asked that all decorations are removed from the tree's branches.
North Herts
Those living in North Herts can leave their real Christmas trees next to their brown bin if they have subscribed to garden waste collections.
Trees can also be taken to Household Waste Recycling Centres or some garden centres.
St Albans and Harpenden
St Albans City and District Council have announced that they will be collecting Christmas trees from beside residents' bins on the first two recycling days of January.
Trees over 5ft tall must be cut in half, whilst garden waste subscribers can leave trees in their green bins.
Welwyn and Hatfield
Residents in Welwyn and Hatfield can put their real trees in their brown bins, provided that they are subscribed to the garden waste service.
Trees can also be taken to Household Waste Recycling Centres or some garden centres.
Garden House and Isabel Hospices will also be collecting and recycling Christmas trees in exchange for a charitable donations.
