Community organisations have come together to organise a free women's safety event in January.

Herts police, North Herts Council and the Community Security Trust (CST) are running the event as part of CST's SAFE programme - Security Advice for Everyone and Anyone.

The event takes place on Sunday, January 15, in Hitchin Town Hall, between 2pm and 4pm.

It will offer women simple tips to help them remain secure and protected in their daily lives. Men are also invited to attend.

North Herts Neighbourhood Inspector, James Lant, said: "It is important that everyone should be able to go about their business in North Herts and feel safe.

“We know that the issue of violence against women and girls is very important to the public right now and this is just part of our ongoing work to tackle this issue.

Cllr Elizabeth Dennis-Harburg, leader of North Herts Council, said: “Women and girls should be able to go about their daily lives and feel safe.

"We shouldn’t have to modify our behaviours, and that’s not what this event is about – it’s about risk awareness, and how to deal with the unsafe behaviour of others."

Anyone interested in attending is asked to book a free ticket online.
