Harry Styles' new movie My Policeman arrives on Amazon Prime Video globally on Friday, November 4.
Directed by Michael Grandage, the Brighton set romantic drama is a story of forbidden love and changing social conventions in 1950s Britain.
My Policeman stars chart-topping Watermelon Sugar and As It Was singer Harry Styles, The Crown's Emma Corrin, Gina McKee, Linus Roache, David Dawson, and Rupert Everett.
Based on the 2012 book of the same name by Brighton author Bethan Roberts, the ill-fated love triangle centres on three young people as they embark on an emotional journey.
It tells the story of policeman Tom and teacher Marion, a couple living in 1950s Brighton.
From the moment Marion, played by Emma Corrin, who starred as Princess Diana in The Crown, meets Tom - played by pop icon Harry Styles - she is smitten.
However, Tom is entangled in a secret love affair with museum art curator Patrick, played by David Dawson, who is comfortable in his sexuality even though the law is fighting against him.
The relationship plays out under Marion’s nose as the three become friends, bonding over the joys of art and culture, as the film explores the multitudes that love can contain.
The narrative dances between two timelines, flashing forward to the late 1990s where we meet Tom (Linus Roache) and Marion (Gina McKee) again.
They are still married, but with Marion caring for Patrick (Rupert Everett), who’s been left incapacitated by a stroke.
“You’ve got three people who meet when they’re young in the 1950s, and they’re drawn together by love, and linked forevermore because of the actions they take with and against one another. And that profoundly affects their lives throughout the decades,” says BAFTA winner Gina McKee, 58, who plays the older version of Marion.
“Then you take the drama four decades later, and bring those three characters together in order to look and perhaps resolve their past.”
Harry Styles said at the LA premiere: "I had such an amazing time working on the film.
"I felt very lucky to get to work with Emma and David and everyone on it. Just, you know, a very special working experience."
David Dawson added: "We had an awful lot of fun making the movie. Yeah, the three of us.
"We made it during Covid, so the three of us were in our own little bubble, and we struck up a friendship and grew quite close. It was a very special time."
So where was My Policeman filmed?
Amazon Studios describes My Policeman as "a heart-stopping portrait of three people caught up in the shifting tides of history, liberty, and forgiveness".
Here's 7 filming locations of new Harry Styles and Emma Corrin movie My Policeman.
1. Brighton and Hove
As one would expect from a movie set in Brighton, the East Sussex seaside resort features prominently in My Policeman.
Sussex Life reports that to fit in with the original book's setting in Brighton, the production crew took full advantage of the city's unique architecture and charm to authentically capture the story's spirit.
Vintage cars were spotted in the iconic Regency Square to film scenes set during the 1950s, and Harry Styles and David Dawson were also spotted alongside a Police Box - not the Tardis - in Brunswick Square in Hove.
Set in the 1950s, filming took place at the Regency Town House in Brunswick Square for a wedding scene, and the iconic Palace Pier, according to The Argus.
Set designers transported the landmark pier back in time to the 1950s for the movie, with Harry Styles on set.
Lead actors Harry Styles, Emma Corrin and David Dawson were also seen filming scenes inside Belcher's Cafe on Montpelier Street in Brighton.
The Royal Pavilion also provides a backdrop for a stroll between characters Tom and Marion.
And filming in Brighton wouldn't be complete without at least one or two scenes on the famous pebble beach, and filmmakers have captured the Brighton seafront for My Policeman.
As well as the beach scene with Emma Corrin, Harry Styles was also spotted swimming in the sea and on the beach in his police uniform.
2. Hitchin, Hertfordshire
The film's first full-length trailer showed former One Direction singer Harry Styles sitting by an open-air swimming pool with co-star Emma Corrin.
These scenes of the movie were filmed at Hitchin's outdoor pool in the summer of 2021.
Producer Robbie Rogers and Emma Corrin later posted a picture of the cast at the pool.
3. Worthing, Sussex
Filming also took place at The Vine pub in Worthing.
A romantic kiss is shared between policeman Tom and schoolteacher Marion in front of the cosy pub in Tarring High Street.
4. Saltdean
Saltdean was transformed to look like nearby Peacehaven in the 1990s.
The older generation of the cast - Linus Roache (Tom), Gina McKee (Marion) and Rupert Everett (Patrick) - were all spotted on Longridge Avenue filming.
5. Peacehaven, East Sussex
Gina McKee and Rupert Everett were seen filming scenes along the beach at Peacehaven Cliffs.
Rupert Everet plays an older version of Patrick in the movie, and it is his arrival that triggers an exploration of events from 40 years previous – Tom and Patrick’s relationship at a time when being gay was illegal.
6. Venice, Italy
The younger versions of Tom and Patrick - Harry Styles and David Dawson - also filmed in Venice, Italy.
There you can see them approaching the city in a speedboat and also enjoying a gondola ride along the famous canals of Venice.
7. London
While the production was mostly based on the south coast in Sussex, scenes of My Policeman were also shot on location in the capital.
My Policeman will be available to watch on Prime Video from Friday, November 4, 2022.
