Police in Stevenage have made five further arrests and seized 200 wraps of class A drugs in their bid to crack down on drug supply in the town.

Four men and one woman were arrested and drugs seized after their vehicle was stopped by officers from Operation Scorpion on Monday.

Officers stopped the car after receiving information about it, at around 10.44pm, while it was travelling along Broadhall Way.

The vehicle and all five occupants were searched and officers then went on to search two addresses linked to the men.

An 18-year-old man from Stevenage was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

Two 19-year-old men and a 21-year-old man from Stevenage were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the supply of a controlled drug.

A 17-year-old girl from Stevenage was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an imitation firearm.

Around 200 wraps of what is believed to be Class A drugs were seized from the car and two of the addresses.

All five have been released on police bail until May while the investigation continues.

Detective Sergeant Ian Sheridan, from the Stevenage local crime unit, said: “This was a good result with officers acting on intelligence received. We are committed to tackling drug crime in Stevenage and will deal robustly with those we catch.

“We welcome information from local residents about suspected drug activity in their area and will always act on the information provided.”

Operation Scorpion is an ongoing campaign to stem the supply of drugs coming in to Stevenage.
